On September 12, a crowd of 60 gathered for Philadelphia’s local version of the National Kiss-In at Philadelphia’s most well known tourist spot for lovers (and skateboarders), Love Park. After brief words from Mel, one of the organizers, the kissing was encouraged to begin.
It was an inspiring sight to witness– couples kissing, friends hugging, cameras snapping, and a large herd of singles standing around thinking, “umm.” The wallflower contingent was so vast that they threatened to obscure the public displays of affection. The single onlookers need not to have worried about being conspicuous because they outnumbered the liplocked gay and lesbian couples.
I felt inspired today- for LGBTI equality of course, but also for knowing that there is a vast legion of the unattached out there.
